The case has a storage compartment and is in overall good condition, inside and out. It comes with two mouthpieces, an Olds #3 and a Conn #4, both in excellent condition. The finish is raw brass with nickel trim.

The 3rd slide stop rod is missing but a repair shop could install one if desired. There are some imperfections - a couple of small dings on the bell tube and crook and a small one on the lead pipe but not very noticeable. They make good horns for beginning to intermediate players. I do not know if this is the original case. These horns were widely used by school band programs in the Olds heyday and are still popular today due to their quality of build and renowned valve block. The valves match the cornet and work well. The tuning slide is stuck and also the lowest brace that goes from the 3rd valve casing to tubing is loose at the tubing. The cornet plays but is in need of some repair. The auction is for the horn only there is no case or mouthpiece. Valve plating looks good, although compression will benefit from an oil designed for vintage horns (our shop go-to is Berp #3). There is some damage around the bell flare and cracking in the lacquer, although the shape is good overall the bell may have been removed for repair or restoration, see solder joints. There are some small dents on the adjustable tuning slide. There are a variety of tiny pings around the horn.

They are commonly placed near the foot joint receiver, or near the top of the body, either on the barrel or near the highest key. Theres a rumor that when Kanstul ran the Olds line that all the horns were of high and consistent quality - even the student models. This is a super cool vintage horn that would fit a great niche in your collection. Flute serial numbers can be found on the back of the body, or middle joint.

The bell engraving wraps around the bell, going about 1.25 times around. There are a lot of nickel silver elements, which tend to give horns a crispness to the response. The Z braces are a point-to-point design to minimize stress in the construction. It also has three elegant trombone-style water keys. You can lower the pitch of the whole horn, very similar to the Olds Recording cornet or the Puje trumpet, although this mechanism is before the valve block not after.
